The PAL promotion is sponsored by BlogPaws and APPA (the American Pet Products Association). Both BlogPaws and the bloggers linked below are being compensated for their involvement.
By Tom Collins
Back in March, I was privileged to attend the APPA's Global Pet Expo, along with Chloe DiVita (SnotfaceAndTwiggy.com) and Felissa Elfenbein (TwoLittleCavaliers.com), as blogger/media. Along with the amazing array of new and familiar pet products and services, we learned about PAL, a relatively new initiative "to demonstrate the joys and benefits of pet ownership, thus driving increased adoption of pets and responsible ownership of pets."
When Caroline found the opportunity to get BlogPaws bloggers involved in promoting the PAL program ... well, it would have been hard to find a better way to launch the BlogPaws Pet Blogger Network.
For our pet bloggers, this truly is a "labor" about love.
But don't take my word, go read their own takes on how pets bring so much joy to our lives!
Romeo the Cat - Today I have a special guest poster: female staff. She’s been angling for her moment in the spotlight for some time now so I guess I should give her a shot. Hope you guys don’t mind indulging her. Thanks, Romeo. Female staff here. I’m known to most as Caroline or MOMMY! As much as Romeo and Pugsley complain about my laziness and inability to serve food on time, I know they love me. And I love them. Oh, MAN do I love these guys. Read more
To Dog With Love - If you're reading this blog, then I probably don't need to convince you of the joys of pet ownership. But the way I figure it, with pets living in 62 percent of U.S. households there's still plenty of room for more folks to experience the fluffier side of life. The folks behind the Pets Add Life (PAL) campaign seem to think so too. That's why they are all about sharing the joys of pet ownership ... especially responsible ownership and increasing the adoption of pets. So, I bring you the five most joyful things about living with Cosmo Havanese. Read more
Doggies and Stuff - It was November 2003 and I was without a dog in my life as the recent passing of Tandy, my German Shepherd, left me hollow and well, deeply depressed. The heartache and pain associated with the loss, which was so deep, eventually dies down but never really goes away. I still think about her often. I had avoided pet stores but started feeling that void grow deeper and deeper everyday that passed. I honestly didn’t know what to do with myself. Read more
Your Daily Cute - How many of you swore forever that you'd only have one cat? You don't need more than that, you said. All that poop scooping, the vet bills, the cat hair... And then somehow, for some reason, you caved. That's exactly how it happened in our house. Pimp was an only child for 10 whole years, the king of the condo, the mayor of the apartment, the only child. Read more
Two Little Cavaliers - First came Davinia she was a quiet little girl who would sit alone all day while I was at work. I would come home and we would run outside for a walk and then would spend the entire evening together but she always seemed lonely. So eventually Indiana came along and Davinia was not at all impressed with a little puppy terrorizing her quiet apartment. Indiana was a handful when she arrived at 9 weeks old literally the first thing she did was eat Davinia’s food. Read more
The Conscious Cat - Until Buckley came into my life in 2006, I’d been an “only cat” person. I didn’t get my first cat until I was in my twenties. Feebee was a grey tabby cat who was born in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia to a cat named Blue, who belonged to a childhood friend of my former husband. We were living in Germany at the time, but knew we would be moving back to the Washington, DC area shortly, so Walt’s friend saved one of the kittens in Blue’s litter for us. Meeting Feebee was love at first sight for me. Read more
ThoughtsFurPaws - I recently “Liked” on Facebook the group Pets Add Life (PAL); they’re a national non-profit foundation “dedicated to promoting the positive role pets play in the health and well being of people, families and communities.” How perfect! I mean, I know there are tons of us pet bloggers who talk every day or week about animals, post photos, silly stories, etc. But it’s something to ponder when you really sit downand try to put a value on your pet or your pets. You can’t do it, right? Read more
Paws and Effect - When I heard about the Pets Add Life campaign — designed to demonstrate the joys and benefits of pet ownership and hopefully increase adoption of pets and responsible ownership of pets — and their latest effort to share the many good things about living with multiple pets, I had to get in on the action. For as long as I can remember, the cats in my life have come in pairs. It started when on my 13th birthday ... Read more
Sparkle Cat - The votes are in and now everyone can see who really created the mystery mischief! Most of you were totally off when it came to the kitchen cabinet. Binga got the most votes — 33% — but it was not her! I will give you one more hint before I reveal the culprit. Here is what is in the cabinet: [image of open kitchen cabinet]. Only one creature here would be fluff-headed enough to open this cabinet over and over again, even though it contains nothing but stupid cooking utensils. One creature other than my human, that is. Pawcurious - Today I saw a bumper sticker that gave me a good laugh: Discover Wildlife- Raise Twins. I couldn’t imagine. My two kiddos are 20 months apart and that is zoo enough for me. Two at the exact same age would probably be more than my rickety knees and/or delicate psyche could handle. Pets, though, are another story. ... I could very easily imagine myself waking up to four dogs running amuk. I kind of love that. Read more
Mousebreath - Hey evrybuddy, Skeezix heer. My gramma has a frend who just adopted a kitten. He’s gone all day at werk, so the kitten is home alone. And when he gits home, the kitten is all over him, wanting to playplayplay. So he wuz wundering if he should git anuther cat to keep his kitten company. Well, don’t even think about… the anser is a rezounding YES! Thare are 3 cats in my famly: me, my big bruther Mao, and that psycho tabby, Tripper. Read more
This One Wild Life - Multiple Pets, Multiple Rewards. Many animals have graced my life since I was a child, and rarely one at a time. Together we’ve formed an intricate web of love that’s beautiful, resilient and strong like that of spider’s lace. Like multiple children, their bonds are never unilateral. Precious relationships form between each fuzzy family member and that’s what makes multiples so special. Read more
Pet Health Care Gazette - When I was approached by BlogPaws about participating in the Pets Add Life (PAL) campaign, a campaign that celebrates the joys of owning pets, it really was a no-brainer to participate. After all, I can’t even imagine what my home would be like without having pets. It really wouldn’t be much of a home at all without my cats. The Joys of Having Multiple Pets Read more
Pet News and Views - I find the term pet owner strange. I don’t think of owning my human child, my husband, or my cat, Earl Gray. It’s actually the other way around—Earl owns me. If he needs food, water, or attention, he just has to look at me with those beautiful eyes. I’m under his spell. A Good Life: The best compliment I ever received was from a friend who said, “If reincarnation exists, I want to come back as one of your cats.” Read more
My Tail Hurts from Wagging So Much - Wanting to own a dog was a good life choice. But, bringing Toby into my life was an even better one. Without him I'm not sure where I would be right now -- mentally, physically or professionally. And, I can't imagine my life without him. From the moment I looked at him it was over. My life would never be the same. If it weren't for Toby..... Read more
Life With Dogs - As much as we love company, should you come knocking at the garden gate, you may find yourself locked out. Don’t take it personally. We love our life in the country. Add a house full of dogs and it’s paradise. With outdoor exploits of some sort available year-round, we’re rarely bored ... and there are few things better than a day spent frolicking in the mountains that surround our home with our pack of fun loving dogs in tow. Read more
Dog Tipper - We love having multiple pets. Since the day we married (25 years ago), there’s never been a day when we’ve had fewer than three pets. When we married, we each had pets who blended as sort of a furry Brady Bunch family. Through the years, the mixture of cats and dogs (and a procession of fish and hermit crabs at various times) in our household has never been boring. Read more
Dog Days (Grouchy Puppy) - Steady Dividends. I'll tell you up front, investing in Cleo and the dog adoption process at the San Francisco SPCA has paid steady dividends. Every year that Cleo has been with us, our life has only been richer because of her influence. As a family, we looked at our lifestyle, our ability to love this dog we knew little about in the beginning, and we were realistic about our commitment to her once we signed on the dotted line. Catsparella - Growing up, we always had one pet in the house. A dog. So when I suddenly became a cat lady in my teens, it surprised many people, especially my Dad, who while an animal-lover, didn't particularly like cats. When I adopted Priscilla ten years ago while still living at home, he was less than thrilled at the prospect of this tiny kitten taking over our house. To make matters worse, we also had a dog named Teddy at the time, ... Read more
I Have Cat - There’s a saying “Cats are like potato chips – you can’t have just one.” I didn’t set out to become the head of a single-parent-multiple-pet family. It just kind of happened. Kip was planned, but I was guilted into adopting Petie, and Haddie was a permanent foster who became official this past January after a year and a half of illegitimacy. I’m not quite the Angelina Jolie of single pet motherhood, but still. Read more
Just Meowin - Apparently some humans are still clueless about how wonderful it is to be owned by a pet. So they asked a bunch of us pet bloggers to help them get the meow out. They also wanted us to share a bit about the joys of bein’ a multi-pet family. I figured that I could use my Fabulous Five Cat Friday post to help with that endeavor. If ya didn’t already know, we are a five cat household here. It really wasn’t planned that way, but, ya know, schtuff happens. Read more
Scratchings and Sniffings - Three dogs and one grumpy old cat. That's what we have at our house. The dogs came from shelters - they are all adults and have unique personalities. Who knew...that someday I'd be a multi-pet Mom? I've always had just one pet. Wait, that's not really right. We used to have a cat and a dog, growing up. But, the cat was solitary and almost always out doors. The dog - was mine. She went everywhere with me. So, I guess I'm wrong about this being new. Read more
